How to find your phone's IMEI number

Every mobile phone has a unique 15-digit IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). Carriers, repair shops and unlocking services use it to identify the exact device. Here are the ways to find it, starting with the fastest.

Dial *#06#

Open the phone app and dial *#06#. The IMEI appears on screen instantly on almost every iPhone and Android phone. Dual-SIM phones show two IMEIs, one for each SIM slot.

This works even without a SIM card inserted, and it does not place a call or cost anything.

Check the settings menu

On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About, and scroll down to IMEI. You can press and hold the number to copy it.

On Android, open Settings, then About phone. Some brands place it under About phone, then Status. Samsung shows it under Settings, About phone.

Look at the SIM tray or the back of the phone

Many iPhones (iPhone 6s and newer) print the IMEI on the SIM tray. Older iPhones and many Android phones print it on the back cover or under the battery.

This is useful when the phone will not power on.

Check the original box or receipt

The retail box carries a barcode label with the IMEI and serial number. Carrier receipts and invoices often list it too.

Before you use the number

Count the digits: a valid IMEI has exactly 15 digits and no letters. If you see 16 digits, the last two are a software version, so use the first 14 plus the check digit shown on the label.

Always copy the IMEI from the device itself when you can. A single wrong digit sends an order to the wrong phone and usually cannot be reversed once a supplier has processed it.
